Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to drive a car to be a Liberty Driver?
Liberty Drivers can use their truck, car, sport utility vehicle, suburban, or mini-van.  We do draw the line however, that you cannot provide Liberty rides in a golf cart or on a motorcycle. Some states require that the vehicle must have 4 full doors – when you apply to be a Liberty Driver that will be noted on the application if that is a requirement.  In some of our more extreme rural communities – we are looking at adding Liberty ferry rides and prop plane trips. Stay tuned…

What will my schedule be like?
One of the best parts of being a Liberty driver is the ability to set your own schedule! Work as much or as little as you’d like – whenever you’re available to give a ride, just turn on your Liberty Driver app and accept the trips that come in. No requirements, no hassle, just helping out your neighbors and community members when your schedule allows.

Do I get paid for miles when the passenger is not in the vehicle?
We reimburse drivers for all the miles the passenger is in the vehicle.  Some call this a “loaded rate”.  Our trip-booking algorithm always requests the closest driver first to help minimize those empty miles.

How do I get paid?
When you sign up as a Liberty Driver we will set up a direct deposit to your bank account and you will get paid bi-weekly for the trips you provide.  No waiting for checks in the mail.  Ever.

What rate do I earn?
While it depends on each state, our standard initial roll-out rate drivers earn is between $0.76 – $0.80 per mile.  We also have a minimum fare rate set at 4 miles – so whether you take them 2 blocks or 2 miles, you still get the minimum 4 mile rate.

What type of insurance do I have to have?
Each state has different requirements and every personal auto insurance company is different. Liberty’s insurance covers your passenger during each trip from the moment the passenger gets in the car to the moment they arrive at their destination.  Always check with your insurance agent to see how your coverage will be impacted.

Do I have to take a drug test?
Yes. We know our drivers are respected community members, and this is predominately just a formality, but our funding requirements stipulate that we must follow federal regulations, which requires drug and alcohol testing. We did a survey, and 9 out of 10 drivers preferred a quick saliva test versus a urine sample. If you were putting your mom in the car with someone you did not know, you would want every level of comfort that this person is safe to drive – right? We’re just adding this extra level of safety for you, our passengers and their loved ones, your insurance, our insurance, and federal regulations.
